Three months + one day
Today you are three months and one day old, Linus.
You are now 62 centimetres and you weigh 6,2 kilos, which is exactly what you ought to measure and weigh according to the books. I pathetically tried to squeeze you into my favourite onesie the other day, but your new-born clothes don't fit you anymore.
I feel that I'm learning to know you better all the time. Your needs become more apparent to me and when I pick up the right signals, it's not difficult to keep you happy. You are a happy baby and you can 'play' by yourself for up to an hour. You love looking around and we notice that you're able to see more and further away all the time.
We have built up quite a routine in the past couple of weeks. Of course everyday is different, but you usually wake up around 5 am for an early morning drink. You then sleep until around 8. You play a bit by yourself and then I feed you again. I put you in bed (in your own room!) at around 9 and then you sleep until well after noon, 1-2 pm. The rest of the day is spent drinking, playing and sleeping. You're tired after two hours awake. You're normally asleep by 9 pm. You drink about six times a day, but more if you want to. This rhythm suits us both fine.
You smile when we make silly sounds. Recently, you also started giggling. The other day Simon made you giggle again and again. It was the first time that I heard it... such an amazing sound! You're really making an effort at making your own sounds and you do get better at it. We can hold quite extensive conversations already; you even know a bit of baby French!
You're easily startled. Sudden moves or loud sounds scare you. You're sensitive in many ways. For instance, when we softly stroke your back the tickling is too much for you. When you get water in your face in the shower you make little uh-uh-uh sounds.
You are becoming a strong little man. You are almost able to roll over from your back to your side and when we pull you up you hold your head up really well. You're starting to reach out to try and grab something that is near. You can hold a toy if we put it in your hands. You've discovered that you have hands and you love putting them in your mouth. Sometimes you put so many fingers down your throat that you almost choke.
Yesterday was a big day for us. I went back to work after having been home for almost five months. I wasn't nervous about leaving you, because you were in the capable hands of your father (I was nervous about going back to work though). And you behaved very well. You drank two bottles of my milk. When I came home I let you drink so much that afterwards the milk was dripping from your chin.
It's such a joy to have you in our lives...I'm looking forward to everything that is yet to come!
