From placemats to pouches

Two and half years ago I thought I'd make placemats for my sister's birthday. I sent the plates, napkins, etc that I bought to go with them, but I never did send those placemats. All I had to do to finish them was sew on the binding, but it somehow never happened. When I dug them up in my craftroom last week, I thought what a waste it was to just leave them there I decided to cut them up and give them a new life.

So these are my placemat-pouches! They're nice and thick and I like them. Three more are almost finished. Of course two of them will make their way to my sister in England!

I also made this very Dutch pouch and tissueholder for a swap.

I was happy to be able to use my new labels. They're simple, but effective. The little plastic pins actually work well and apparently will stay on in the wash.

Last week when I quickly went through Ikea I came to an immediate stop when I saw the new fabrics. Don't you love these new prints? The photo actually doesn't do them justice... I need a new camera! Now what shall I make of them?

Today you are seven months old, Linus!

You are such an active little boy. When I put you down somewhere, you flip over to your stomach in a nano second. You're so observant too. First you check out what you want and then you go for it. You're about to crawl. And sit. You make the practise look so easy as well.

Thankfully, your sleeping habits have normalised to the way they were before things changed so radically around your 4-months mark. You sleep well in your own bed. You sleep through the night for about half of the nights, and when you do wake up your dummy will get you back to sleep almost immediately. I can't even say how grateful I am for this change. It's so obvious how much better you feel now (and I myself feel human again too). Whatever made you so unhappy all those weeks will remain a mystery; we're just all so glad that that phase seems to have passed.

You have two tiny teeth! And wow, are they sharp!
We have made quite some progress with your solids. You love porridge and fruit (apple, pear, banana). It seems to fatten you up a little too, which I'm happy about... bring on the double chins and dimpled bottom! I still breastfeed you four times a day. You really disapprove of dinner though. So far we've tried carrot and broccoli, occasionally mixed with potato, but you're not having any of it.

 

Your brother and sister are crazy about you. This afternoon you took a nap while Amber watched over you. She's such a proud, caring sister. She praises you for every new achievement.

The first thing Simon does every morning is look for you. He talks to you, jumps up and down and tries to make you smile. He feels very responsible to quiet you when you cry. Very often he does indeed manage to quiet you, even if it is sometimes by simply making more noise than you do :)

Things have become a little more hectic since you arrived here, Linus, but your presence has enriched our lives so enormously... we wouldn't want it any other way!
