Baby booties by papa

A few weeks ago Michel made these cute booties for Linus. It was the first time that he was going to take Linus on the bike with him and he wanted to protect his feet from the cold. So he hand sewed these booties! And he made from his own gloves... how cool and thrifty is that?!

It was also Linus' first time sitting in a shopping cart. Doesn't he look delicious? I wished I had been there too, but unfortunately I was at work.

On the way back he fell asleep in his seat. Now honestly, is there anything sweeter than a sleeping baby in a bike seat... or am I being overly sentimental and too much in love with my little man?! No, I don't think so :)

I made a dress and I liked it

Last week Amber asked me to make her a dress for oma's birthday party. She was slightly worried:"Will you be able to do that within a week, Mum?" Of course, NO problem, darling!
Quite honestly I was flattered that she trusted me with this important job, since lately she has been a bit fussy about what she wants to wear.

Amber picked the pattern herself and I thought it was an excellent choice. It didn't seem too difficult, although this was my first time sewing a balloon skirt dress, and really it wasn't. I just had to alter the pattern a little since the sizes that were provided were too small. Miraciously, that went well.

Together we picked out fabric from my extensive stash and we were both happy with the pink-orange print. The fabric is a linen-cotton blend that also has a bit of stretch. I had initially bought it to make a skirt for myself, but I'm sure it looks much better on Amber.

The dress closes with a blind zipper. Unfortunately, my zipper is visible again. I tried to follow the instructions, but couldn't make a lot of sense of it, so I just did my own thing. The result is quite acceptable, although I would love to learn how to properly put in a zipper one day!

Anyway I got the dress finished about 30 minutes before we left for the party, so I kept my promise and my daughter's faith in me was boosted again :)

The best thing of all was that Amber was very happy with her new dress. And you know that a happy child equals a happy mother! Her smile made me want to start on another dress right away, but I think I'll wait until spring. I did sew another 6 metres of bunting yesterday morning for my sister's birthday (no photo). It feels good to sew!

For celebrating

I made some bunting for my sister's birthday. She lives in England and I am proud to say that the package arrived on time (*pat on the shoulder*)!!

I used a stack of Fair Trade cotton fabrics that my sister gifted me a year ago. They were pre-cut squares, so I decided to make square bunting.

Sewing the squares together and adjusting them to the bias tape was a lovely mindless job. If I even get to my sewing machine these days (not often) I do need almost instant gratification and this little project provided that for me.

So yes, it was a success and my sister liked her present. And Amber already ordered some pink bunting for her birthday, which should be an achievable goal since her birthday isn't until June :)

By the way... do you know how difficult it is to photograph bunting in action? Nearly impossible!|

10 months

Today you are 10 months old, Linus!

You're now 72 cms and you weigh 8,3 kgs, so you're still small and light. You are getting a little bulkier, though, which undoubtedly has something to do with the fact that you are now eating very well. You love bread, bread sticks and anything else that you can chew on (you have 7 teeth already!). You also love porridge, fruit and your dinner, and breast milk of course.

You're able to do sooooo much now. You're such a fast learner. Sometimes I wished you would just slow down... you're still so little. You crawl, you grab, you tear, you pull yourself up, you wave goodbye (in the cutest way), you play games and you're walking (whilst holding on to something).

In this photo you're on your way to grab your sister's book. Look at your cheeky face! Your latest trick is that you call out to Amber when she is in school. You call:"Aaaaaaam-Beeeee" and look expectantly out of the window. I find this amazing.

Recently, you've been sleeping well (yay!). You go to bed around 7.30 pm and usually wake up around 7.30 am... we have no complaints about that! During the day you take one 2/3-hour nap.

You're quite a little character. You're very determined and when things don't go your way, you will make that very clear. You're a very physical little person too. You're always feeling something and you're hands are never still. You simply love fumbling with my earrings and usually you do it very carefully.

We all love watching you grow and learn and everyday we are thankful that you came into our lives... happy 10 months, baby!
