We all know Pinterest, right? And we all know that from the 100 things that you pin you will only actually make about three things in reality? Well, one of those three things that I made was this:
we planted a very dirty dessert!
I can't actually find the original pin right now, but in my mind it was pretty similar to what we created... and if not, then I think they turned out rather good anyway!
So how to make these desserts? First make chocolate mousse, crumble Oreo cookies without the white middle stuff on top and then stick in your mint leaves.
The children loved doing this (and so did I).
Hopefully if I state it loudly and boldly enough it will actually happen as well. Come on sun... grill!! Let's bring it on!
At least the children are off school. Summer holiday started at noon today.
Here is Linus sliding into his summer vacation, a yearly tradition for the little ones.
I took the children to the film this afternoon. We saw this film and we ALL enjoyed it. Really nice.
And I started a summer crochet project: a ripple blanket. It will be about 150/200 when it's finished, so I have some way to go :)

The free market in our town was massive and we all had a really good haul.

When we were tired from the free market we went back home where we spent hours in the sun: reading, eating, drinking. Dinner outside in the garden... yes, a perfect day.
My sister had these splashes of Spring flowers on her desk in her lovely new apartment. Seriously delicious.

Ok, I suddenly see a lot more pyjamas, t-shirts, leggings and anything else that's stretchy in my future... yesterday's post is a little outdated now that I'm the owner of a serger!
Now to figure out how it works... It comes with an instruction dvd... in German! Strangly enough, I understood it all. Tomorrow my thread arrives and then the super sewing can begin :)
Oh, and I have new shoes too. A materialistic kind of day, but those days are neccesary sometimes ;)
Tomorrow is the big, all important Sinterklaas feast. Presents are wrapped, just some poems still need to be written. How important is Sinterklaas for the children? Extremely important, probably the most exciting day of the year after their birthdays.
To prepare ourselves the children made the traditional pepernoten today. Pepernoten are small, round cookies with specific spices. It was great to see the three of them work so concentratedly, each in their own way.
Of course, they got to eat some after they were baked.
It was a nice homely day, just some family time like last Sunday.
And I got to crochet for a while... I'm making progress!
After such a cosy Sunday pursuing normal life can be positively unglamourous.
Some bright colours always cheer me up.
Sometimes I feel like I'm "playing house" and you know what... I like it :)
Of course, a little Morrissey always cheers me up! Happy Tuesday, everyone!
My trip to the thriftstore this morning started off a little disappointing. Downstairs: no cups, no plates, no trays, no tins.
Upstairs the fabric section. At first glance it wasn't much... but then! I spotted a lady with a suspiciously overflowing basket, so I checked the pile that she was going through and discovered that a seamstress had obviously cleared out her closets. I tried not to look at the other lady's basket, as she might have picked the best fabrics. Still, there was plenty left for greedy old me. I grabbed an armfull of stuff and then later made a selection. Trust me... I could have bought a lot more!

I tried to be choosy.
I left some behind!
I think I will just sew them up into a small blanket.
And then... I passed the baby section. Remember: always check all corners of the thrifstore... treasures can be anywhere!
And indeed there was another treasure waiting for me... I love this piece of faux patchwork (80 cents).
It's a good thing I just cleared out my sewing room (don't tell my Mum about my new purchases!) ;) Now back to the sewing machine!
