A bit of a slow day today, which was very welcome after all the running around that we did lately. One thing we had to do was quite a bit of shopping.
Usually, I try to do all the shopping alone, but today it worked too. Giving Linus a comic book to read was an excellent trick (we bought it later, we are good like that).
Also, we have a new friend. I guess you never know what your daughter drags home, right?!
We celebrated the Dutch traditional feast of St. Maarten today (which should actually be celebrated on 11/11).
The kids had their laterns ready and were eager to get started. It was their first time celebrating. Where I grew up this feast was one of the biggest events for children, but where we live now it isn't so much.
I thought my trio was just so cute singing their little song for a treat :)
After 90 minutes we all had sore feet and a satisfying amount of sweets. Of course, at home it was time to check out all the treasures.
There was also another celebration today: it was our 12th wedding anniversary. So much has happened in the 17 years that we've been together, but I really believe that our bond today is stronger than ever <3
I wanted to post a photo of the latest cushion that I made this summer for a friend's wedding, but then I realised that I hadn't posted any of the others either, I believe (excuse me if I'm accidently double posting ;))
So in order of creation here are the four cushions that I crocheted in the last 16 months. They are all granny squares, because that is just so very easy to do :)

I broke our glass lamp shade a while ago (while vacuuming, go figure!), so I needed a new one. Not wanting to spend much money on it and not wanting to search for a new one either, I decided to pick up a cheap lamp shade from the thrifstore and see what I could do with that.

All I did was get out my prettiest vintage ribbons and bravely cut into them (go me!). I then attached all ribbons with sticky velcro tape. It took a while, but when I was finished I was super pleased with the result.
This project hardly cost me anything and I actually love that my ribbons are on constant display.
For years I've been looking at photos of delicious looking s'mores. This typically American treat is something that we don't have in Holland. So I reckoned: why not make my own?
While searching for recipes I noticed Graham crackers being mentioned in all of them. Another thing we don't have in Holland. So I found a recipe for Graham crackers... I'm not sure whether they turned out the way they were supposed to, but all in all the s'mores turned out quite yummy and of course super calorific :)
Some time ago I spotted this Figgjo Flint fondue set in the thriftstore. Such a fine moment. I snatched it up before I could even think what to do with it. Sometime you just got to have something, right?
Anyway, it's been sitting on the top of the fridge for weeks now (I got it down today) and husband was getting impatient about it. I googled a little, but there are very few others to be found online. The only one that I found on Ebay has an asking price of more than 100 euros.
So I guess I will put it up for sale and see what it does. But I won't mind if it doesn't sell; after all, it belongs to the rest of the collection!
In two weeks and a bit I'll be off to England! And I'm going ALL BY MYSELF. I will be visting my sister in Oxford, but when she works I will be spending a lot of time on my own as well. I'm so excited and a bit nervous too. A whole week without my little family... how will it all go? Perfectly fine, probably :)
Today we're off to visit our nextdoor neighbours.
The ones that live to the right of us. The right of our country that is.
We're off for a long weekend to Germany with family.
We'll be celebrating Sinterklaas, we'll go to a Christmas market and we'll undoubtedly enjoy the good food and drinks of Germany.
I'm really looking forward to it. I think I deserve a break after a whole month of blogging, don't you?!
Amber made a list of what clothes to pack... she did it all by herself; the mistakes are just delicious!

Nonetheless, there were some (high)lights as well.
At least I got lots of things done: three loads of washing, the shopping, a couple of things sewn, a shop update... and it's not even 16.30 yet!
And NaBloPoMo is done! That last post is definitely not going to get me down... I made it! Hurray for me!
